#Documentary soundtracks

I am now working on the new and very peculiar documentary film by Giuliano Ricci (Non c'è più una majorette a Villalba's Director). It looks at Sardinia's inland inhabitants habits and their very intense relationship with dream, religion, myth, death. Besides the subject matter itself, it’s a very interesting piece of work on the compositional side. I will finally have the chance to work with the very rich-sounding and evocative material of Pinuccio Sciola's musical sculptures.

My late-winter soundtrack project is Just to let you know that I'm an alive. This is a documentary film by journalist and writer Emanuela Zuccalà and Contrasto's agency photographer Simona Ghizzoni, which looks at the issues facing Saharawi women. I already had the pleasure to work with them before (Odd days and My beauty is dead to you) and their work is always very passionate and interesting.

Il 28 Ottobre si terrà alla Cinémathèque française, a Parigi, "Émergence des styles numériques, une approche physique" una retrospettiva sul lavoro di Jacques Perconte, artista col quale ho avuto il piacere di collaborare diverse volte.

Durante la seconda parte del programma, quella specificatamente monografica, verrà proiettato, fra gli altri, sia Satyagraha, nostro lavoro del 2009, sia Impressions, il nuovo film di Jacques per il quale ho composto la musica.

Along the shores of Normandy, on the track of the Impressionist painters, something’s happening: the colors are crashing against the screen...

Impressions, my new project, is dealing with the images and their transformation. As my work was often compared to the French Impressionist movement, I decided to follow their traces in Normandy. Filming on the same spots where Monet or Corot used to paint, I will create a kind of Impressionism 2.0. I will mix digital art, landscape documentary and the still vivid theories of Impressionists painters about light and colors.

I will film these “touristic” landscapes of French Normandy, beaten up by elements (the wind, the sun and the waves) and filled with animals (the cows and the birds). Will the landscapes be different from the ones painted in the XIXth century ?

Che cos'è l'ideologia? Una risposta è stata suggerita in forma paradossale: ciò che non sappiamo di sapere. Simonluca Laitempergher, con l'aiuto di Veronica Tinnirello, prende seriamente questa definizione e la rivolge contro i Mondo Movies, documentari "di grande successo" nati negli anni '60 e '70 dal tenore esplicito e scandalistico, conservandone parole e immagini, ma disarticolandone il senso. In scena si ripercorre quindi una sorta di genealogia del pregiudizio ideologico: l'aggressività del tono con cui si avvicinava lo spettatore di allora viene spogliata della sua carica tendenziosa e restituita al giudizio di oggi senza mediazioni. "Quanto vale questo giudizio?", "Da proviene?", "Come si lega a quanto visto?", sono solo le domande che più direttamente interrogano lo spettatore. Dietro tutto questo la questione della verità: come quasi si possa leggere sullo sfondo un celebre aforisma, proprio di quegli anni, per cui "Nel mondo realmente rovesciato, anche il vero è un momento del falso".
